Fiji’s tallest traditional temple takes centre stage in the revival of Pacific Harbour’s iconic Arts Village
The Damodar Arts Village in Pacific Harbour, Deuba, is Fiji’s newest cultural destination, home to the country’s tallest bure kalou, vibrant live performances, and authentic local artisan experiences. It marks a major milestone in the revival of one of Fiji’s most iconic cultural attractions.

At its centre stands the magnificent new bure kalou, Fiji’s tallest traditional temple, built to honour the spirit and craftsmanship of ancient Fijian architecture. Surrounded by the Chief’s bure, artisan huts, and a serene lagoon setting, it stands as both a spiritual symbol and a stunning architectural landmark. Visitors can witness meke performances from an open-air pavilion, enjoy storytelling sessions, and experience the sacred firewalking ceremony performed by the renowned firewalkers of Beqa, a powerful expression of Fiji’s courage and spiritual tradition.
“The Damodar Arts Village is more than a cultural revival, it is a destination,” said Dayanand Damodar, Chairman of Damodar Yatulau Pte Limited. “We wanted to restore the spirit of the old Cultural Centre while creating a sustainable attraction that supports local artists, entrepreneurs, and the Pacific Harbour community.”

The original Arts Village in Deuba was once one of Fiji’s most popular attractions, drawing both locals and tourists for its cultural shows, dance performances, and lagoon charm. Now, decades later, its revival by Damodar Yatulau Pte Limited – a joint venture between the Damodar Group and Yatulau Company Limited – represents more than a reconstruction. It is the return of a cultural landmark offering visitors an authentic traditional Fijian village experience.
With an investment of around FJ$20 million and the creation of approximately 200 new jobs, the Damodar Arts Village is designed as both an artistic and economic catalyst for the region. “Our partnership unites investment, culture, and community,” said Viliame Leqa, Chairman of Yatulau Company Limited. “Together, we have redeveloped a place that celebrates who we are as Fijians while offering new opportunities for local employment, education, and creative expression.”

Beyond its cultural heartbeat, the Arts Village features boutique shops, craft outlets, and cafés, inviting visitors to linger and explore.
The first public cultural show is scheduled for Saturday, 1 November 2025, at 11am, with tickets available on www.artsvillage.com.fj and www.ticketmax.com.fj. This combination of attractions creates a lively, welcoming atmosphere for tourists and residents alike.
EXPLORE Fiji recommends the Arts Village as one of the top things to do in Pacific Harbour. From exploring the cultural complex to enjoying nearby attractions like the Navua River, Beqa Lagoon, and local craft markets, there is something for every kind of traveller, whether you are seeking culture, thrill, or relaxation. This revival ensures that Pacific Harbour remains a premier destination for arts, culture, and leisure in Fiji.
