There’s a new connection forming across the Pacific, and it’s not made of steel or concrete.
It’s built on flight paths, shared skies, and an easier way of moving between Canada and the South Pacific.
Two worlds, made closer
Fiji Airways and WestJet, Canada’s leading low-cost carrier, have announced a new codeshare partnership that will make travel between Canada and Fiji feel more seamless.
For travellers, this means fewer fragmented bookings and a smoother path across multiple destinations under a single itinerary.
Instead of juggling separate tickets and check-ins, guests can now move across both airline networks with more ease, connecting Canada, Fiji, and onward into the wider Pacific.
Canada to the Pacific, more connected than before
Under the agreement, Fiji Airways will place its “FJ” code across WestJet’s domestic Canadian network, including cities such as Toronto, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Halifax.
This opens up easier access for Canadian travellers starting their journey far from the Pacific, but heading toward it in one continuous flow.
On the other side, WestJet will place its “WS” code on Fiji Airways flights between Vancouver and Nadi, and onward connections into New Zealand including Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington.
The result is a more connected travel map between Canada and the South Pacific.
Vancouver strengthens its Pacific role
Vancouver continues to grow as a key gateway between North America and the Pacific.
From June 18th 2026, Fiji Airways will operate three weekly year-round flights between Nadi and Vancouver on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
From September 8th 2026, those services will be operated by the Airbus A350, adding more capacity and a more modern long-haul experience on the route.
More than flights, it’s about movement between regions
Passenger travel between Canada and Fiji has increased by 19 percent year-on-year, showing steady growth in demand for Pacific travel.
Many travellers are not only heading to Fiji, but continuing onward to Australia, New Zealand, and other Pacific islands.
The connection between the two countries is also growing at a broader level, including trade, tourism, and climate cooperation, supported by the presence of Canada’s High Commission in Suva.
What leaders are saying
Fiji Airways CEO and Managing Director Paul Scurrah says Canada is an important and growing market for Fiji and the wider Pacific.
Jennifer Lalonde, Canada’s High Commissioner to Fiji, said the partnership is a welcome development in strengthening long-standing ties between the two countries.
She added that improved connectivity will make it easier for Canadians to experience the South Pacific, while also supporting tourism, trade, and people-to-people links that remain central to the Canada–Fiji relationship.
John Weatherill, WestJet Group Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer, said: “By deepening ties between WestJet’s North American network and Fiji Airways’ world-class service to the South Pacific, we are making it easier for our shared guests to reach the destinations that matter most to them.”
He added that whether people are travelling to immerse themselves in a new culture, reconnect with loved ones, or explore a path less travelled, the partnership is about creating smoother journeys and more meaningful travel experiences.
A simpler way to move across the Pacific
For travellers, the change is practical.
One booking. Fewer disruptions. Better connections between continents that are far apart but increasingly linked.
It also brings Fiji closer into North American travel networks, while giving Canadian travellers easier access into the South Pacific.
